Indigo, Canada’s largest book retailer, experienced a ransomware attack on February 8, 2023. The company immediately engaged third-party experts to investigate and resolve the situation. To prevent data from being improperly accessed, some of the company’s systems were proactively shut down. Indigo has stated that customer credit and debit card information was not compromised, as they do not store full credit or debit card numbers in their systems. The company has also notified all affected employees after their investigation found that some employee data was affected. Indigo is cooperating with law enforcement and has retained the assistance of TransUnion of Canada, Inc. to offer two years of myTrueIdentity credit monitoring and identity theft protection services at no cost.
Indigo has not provided information regarding when customers can expect a full online shopping experience. Currently, only select books are available for purchase online. The Indigo app is also unavailable, and the company is not accepting Indigo gift cards as payment online. Indigo apologizes for the inconvenience and appreciates the patience of its customers during this time. Customers can contact service@indigo.ca with their order number for any updates or concerns.
In-store pickup is available, but the online store is not providing the ability to check local store inventory or accept discount codes. Indigo is working hard to bring back the ability to use discount codes and provide the seamless online shopping experience that customers have come to expect.
The company’s stores are open across the country, and Indigo looks forward to seeing its customers in person.
